  1. $5,000 American Forum for Global Education, New York, NY
    Two-part grant: (1) $1,000 to support networking and leadership activities with national education organizations and (2) $4,000 to develop and disseminate 50 practical activities to match the Global/International Guidelines for immediate use by teachers. Will be available free on American Forum's web site.
  2. $4,000 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Alexandria, VA
    To create an online professional development course on global education with an interdisciplinary approach to teaching for K-12. Grant supports global education consultants to ensure quality of course content.

    To include a Senior Associate middle school teacher in the 1999 CHOICES Teaching Fellows Program. (Discretionary Grant) More
  4. $15,000 Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), Washington, DC
    Three-part-grant: (1): $750 to support meetings in Washington for leaders of national educational leadership groups; (2) $5,250 to fund fourth biennial award to state department of education for encouraging global/international education; (3) $9,000 to support assessment project to develop a national test to measure student knowledge of the world.
  5. $3,000 Education for Global Involvement, Inc., Chicago, IL
    To support professional development for 9th grade teachers to move the teaching of world history from the usual area studies approach to a global approach.
  6. $10,000 Institute for Educational Inquiry, Seattle, WA
    Third and final year of commitment for school reform project to determine essential content and pedagogy required for teachers to develop democratic character in students. Grant supports continuing work of the Working Group of educators, who will present their results at a major national conference in June, 1999. This is part of John Goodlad's National Network for Education Review.

    To provide honoraria for local teacher coordinators in third year of project involving grades 4-8 students and their families in world affairs project.
  8. $8,000 National Catholic Education Association, Washington, DC
    To fund fourth year of mini-grant program for worthy global education projects in member elementary schools.

    Third year grant to continue support for twelve elementary and middle school teacher awards for classroom projects judged worthy of dissemination through Global TeachNet. (Teachers and Schools Grant) More
  10. $5,000 Ohio State University, College of Education, Columbus, OH
    To continue development of teacher education program in global perspectives involving elementary classroom teachers who were partnered with twenty foreign nationals as "cultural consultants." Elementary teachers will receive substantive content in global education as well as technology training for using the Internet and World Wide Web. Some teachers will be encouraged to write about this model program for publication in elementary school journals.

    To support the 8th Summer Institute offered to teachers nationwide. Topics for 1999 includes Japan and the Asian financial crisis; Latin America; the Caspian Basin; International Affairs in the Information Age; and Weapons of Mass Destruction.
  14. $5,000 World History Association, Aspen, CO
    To support dissemination of methods for teaching world history of resource materials. The materials also will be available electronically on the Internet.
