NebraskaTo address the challenges of preparing students to be citizens, workers, and leaders in the interconnected world of the twenty-first century, the Nebraska Department of Education and the Malaika Foundation are creating a support system to improve the international knowledge and skills of Nebraska students. Building on the foundation created in 2008 by a survey of PK-12 educators and an International Education Summit attended by participants from education and government, the International Education Council prepared an action plan for the Going Global Project. The project will provide workshops for teachers at regional Educational Service Units across the state, model lessons through online training opportunities, and strategies and activities that any teacher in any subject area can use in a variety of educational settings. Resources supporting international education will be available on the Nebraska Department of Education website and iTunesU. The Going Global Project will also focus on building partnerships among stakeholders — PreK-16 educators, after school and summer programs, businesses, government entities, and community-based organizations — to enhance the continuing progress of international education development in Nebraska.
