DC Center for Global Education and LeadershipWith its large concentration of international resources and organizations, DC students, educators, and schools have for decades benefited from a wide range of global education programs, learning opportunities, and partnerships. In the 2009-10 school year, the DC Center for Global Education and Leadership (CGEL), a nonprofit organization, working in collaboration with the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, the DC State Board of Education, and DC Public Schools, will launch the Global DC initiative to build a more systemic statewide approach to preparing DC students for global citizenship. This initiative will include: - A report on the state of global education in DC Public Schools.
- A comprehensive survey of global education resources, opportunities, and programs available to DC schools, educators, and students.
- A series of roundtable discussions involving key stakeholder communities.
- A one-day Global Education Summit, which will bring together educators; government and business leaders; academics and university officials; students, parents, and community members; embassy officials; and NGO representatives to create a shared vision for what a globalized K-12 public education system in DC could look like.
- A culminating Summit Report.
To support these efforts, CGEL will create a website to share information on global education opportunities, resources, and best practices. It also recently formed a Global Education Partner Collaborative as a vehicle to promote information sharing, collaborative programming, and public awareness.
